Hong Kong: Down on US default fears
STOCKS closed down 0.63 per cent yesterday as dealers grew nervous about the lack of movement to end a budget impasse in Washington that threatens to trigger a US debt default.
The benchmark Hang Seng Index lost 144.88 points to 23,033.97 on turnover of HK$54.76 billion.
On the index, environmental services firm China Everbright International rose 5.1 per cent to HK$7.17, Bank of China slipped 0.28 per cent to HK$3.61, Bank of Communications fell 0.69 per cent to HK$5.75
Meanwhile, Bank of East Asia shed 0.30 per cent to HK$32.85. AFP
