CMCF holds content code workshop for advertising industry
KUALA LUMPUR: Communications and Multimedia Content Forum of Malaysia (CMCF) recently organised a workshop for the advertising industry to enable them to have a better grasp of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia content code.
It was also aimed at familiarising the industry with the prevailing guidelines administered by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission, CMCF, Health Ministry and the Film Censorship Board.
The content code is a set of industry guidelines for the use and dissemination of content via the electronic networked medium.
CMCF chairman Ahmad Izham Omar, in his opening address, encouraged the participants to exercise self-regulation in creating content that adheres to the guidelines.
"The stakeholders must take the lead in acting responsibly in abiding to the country's values as well as the social and cultural norms of the day," he said in a statement.
CMCF executive director Mohd Mustaffa Fazil said when it comes to content involving commercial advertising, the most common offences include unsubstantiated claims and inappropriate visual depictions.
CMCF holds monthly training sessions that serve as a platform in creating awareness on content code for clients, advertising agencies, and the electronic media, including radio, television, telcos, and Internet service providers. The content code provides specific rules and regulations pertaining to content distributed via the electronic media.
"We are the custodians of the content code serving as mediators to all parties," Mustaffa said.
