GEORGE TOWN: The Northern Corridor Implementation Authority (NCIA) plans to forge cooperation with the Republic of Tatarstan in technology and agriculture development.

NCIA chief executive Datuk Redza Rafiq said the matter was being worked out to identify the possible areas.

"They have the strength in terms of technology and industry, but from the services aspect, they want to learn from us, like how we create opportunities for the private sector, the small and medium industries and entrepreneurs.

"To them, regional development is a new concept," he said after giving a briefing to delegates from the republic who visited the NCIA Technological Development Cen-tre at Bayan Lepas, near here yesterday.

Redza said an agreement would be signed by the two parties in the field of technological development this year.

He said the northern corridor was keen to cooperate with the republic because of their similarities.

The 15-member delegation from the Republic of Tatarstan is led by its Investment Development Agency chief executive Linar Yakupov.

Beside NCIA, the delegates were also taken to visit a few industrial companies in the state. Bernama
