Europe: Nears 5-year high
LONDON: European shares edged higher to trade near a five-year high by midday trading yesterday, with automobile and financial sectors advancing after some encouraging company results.
Approaching midday in London, the FTSE 100 index shed 0.53 per cent to 6,741.96 points. Frankfurt's DAX 30 slipped 0.18 per cent to 8,994.20 points and Paris' CAC 40 edged up 0.09 per cent to 4,278.13 compared with Wednesday's closing values. Madrid's main stocks index advanced by 0.57 per cent and Milan by 0.51 per cent.
At 1226 GMT, the pan-European FTSEurofirst 300 index was up 0.3 per cent at 1,291.43 points after climbing to a five-year high in the previous session. However, the index stayed on track to record a second straight month of gains . Agencies
