The company said it is on track to implementing the energy management system for its property assets, starting out with Wisma Sime Darby Bhd.

KUALA LUMPUR: Sime Darby Property Bhd, the property arm of conglomerate Sime Darby Bhd, has become the first organisation in the country to be certified with the ISO 50001:2011 energy certification.

In a statement yesterday, the property developer said the 2011 certification from Sirim QAS International Sdn Bhd covers the energy management system for the operation and maintenance of property assets.

ISO 50001 is the gold standard for energy management systems and provides Sime Darby Property with a systematic guidance to achieve continual improvement in energy performance, encompassing energy efficiency, energy security and energy consumption.

Sime Darby Property managing director and Sime Darby Group chief operating officer Datuk Abd Wahab Maskan describes the certification as the milestone that affirms the group's unwavering commitment towards embracing sustainability in every way.

Wahab said improving energy efficiency has been identified as one of Sime Darby Property's 14 sustainability goals, and the company aims to achieve a 20 per cent increase in energy efficiency by 2020.

"As part of the certification process, we have invested in various energy-efficiency technologies in Wisma Sime Darby.

"These include installation of variable speed drives at cooling tower fans and condenser water pumps to optimise energy usage," he said.

As a result, Wisma Sime Darby successfully achieved energy savings of 13 per cent, he added.
