SUBANG JAYA: Proton's family sedan, the Preve, has been awarded a five- star rating in the Australasian New Car Assessment Programme, better known as the ANCAP.
In a statement, Proton Holdings Bhd said the result announced by ANCAP came after the the completion of three crash tests - frontal offset, side impact and pole - conducted by independent specialist laboratories in Australia to determine the safety level of the Proton Preve.
In order to obtain five-star rating - the highest award given by ANCAP - the Proton Preve had to achieve the highest international recognised standards in all of its test categories.
Equipped with specifications that are in compliance with the Australian automotive safety standards, Preve now joins the ranks of many other internationally renowned models as a car that is recommended by ANCAP to consumers.
Proton Holdings chairman Datuk Seri Mohd Khamil Jamil said Proton's drive to change the public perception about its brand is now further proven and reinforced by this latest achievement.
"As we have reiterated time and time again, our models are not just affordable but more importantly, we want our customers to know that they are quality products.
" An achievement of this level is yet another testament of the improving quality of Proton cars.
"Proton Preve is recommended as a safe car that is at par with other international models to have been awarded with the same rating by ANCAP," said Mohd Khamil.
A technological first for Proton in engineering, all Proton Preve units produced for domestic and export markets utilise a technology defined as hot press forming that provides better protection and higher body as well as structural rigidity without compromising the overall car bodyweight.
"We are constantly working on enhancing the safety performance of all of our models - particularly for the domestic market, and our customers will see the result of our initiative in our upcoming models and variants from the third quarter of 2013 onwards," said Mohd Khamil.
The five-star rating awarded to the Proton Preve follows the recent achievement by Saga FLX, another model under the Proton marque.
Saga FLX received a three-star rating by the Asean new car assessment programme.
Mohd Khamil added that this latest development comes at a perfect timing as Proton Preve is now available in Australia as well as in Thailand and Brunei.
