ORGANIC food company Everprosper Food Industries Sdn Bhd has won the Best New Product Award 2013 at the BioFach 2013 in Nuremburg, Germany.

Chief executive officer Phoon Yih Pyng said the company has been promoting a variety of organic noodles at the trade fair for the past five years and is the sole Malaysian company among the international exhibitors.

Phoon said only companies with international organic certifications are allowed to participate in Bio- Fach.

"Organic products manufactured by Everprosper are certified by the National Association for Sustainable Agriculture of Australia and the United States Department of Agriculture, among others," he said in a statement yesterday.

Everprosper has been a member of Malaysian External Trade Development Corp (Matrade) since 2002.

It has been actively participating in Matrade programmes to promote processed food products, such as the Anuga in Cologne and Salon International de l'Alimentation in Paris.

The company has a presence in China, Singapore, Indonesia, Taiwan, Hong Kong, India, Australia, New Zealand, the UK, Germany, Norway, US and Canada.

BioFach 2013 was held from February 13 to February 15 by the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements and the German Federation of Organic Food Industry.

It is one of the world's largest annual fairs for organic products.

According to Matrade, this year's event saw the participation of 2,400 exhibitors from 83 countries and attracted more than 50,000 traders and organic food specialists.

More than 100,000 different items, ranging from organic food products to non-food items such as natural cosmetics and eco-textiles, were on display.

Matrade said German consumers spent US$8.5 billion (RM26.44 billion) on organic products last year.

It said the sale of organic products rose by almost 10 per cent in 2011, maintained a similar volume last year and are expected to increase this year due to strong consumer interest to seek healthier alternatives.
