PASIR GUDANG: Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) will gradually introduce the Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) technology at 14 other oilfields in Malaysia following the implementation of the technology at the Tapis field offshore Terengganu.
Its vice-president of petroleum management unit, Ramlan Abdul Malek, said the company will introduce the technology, which prolongs the petroleum production of mature oilfields, at its other oilfields in due course.
"This includes the Baram, Bokor and Dulang oilfields," he said after the Tapis-R topsides onshore fabrication celebration at the Malaysia Marine and Heavy Engineering Bhd (MHB) fabrication yard, here, yesterday.
Also present were Petronas president and group chief executive officer Tan Sri Shamsul Azhar Abbas, ExxonMobil Exploration & Production Malaysia Inc (EEPMI) chairman and president J. Hunter Farris and MBH chief executive officer Dominique de Soras.
Farris said EEPMI and Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd will invest RM10 billion over the next three years for the EOR project that will rejuvenate the oilfield, which includes the cost of bringing in new technology.
The Tapis-R topsides is part of Petronas Carigali's and EEPMI's EOR initiative at the Tapis oilfield.
It is an 18,000-tonne integrated deck that includes facilities for gas compression, water injection and production separation and living quarters for 145 personnels.
