"Vestigo Petroleum needs experienced leader"
KUALA LUMPUR: Petronas' decision to appoint Keith Collins as Chief Executive Officer of its subsidiary Vestigo Petroleum Sdn Bhd is to ensure it is run by an experienced expert, said Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Razali Ibrahim.
He said Malaysia still lacks specialists in this new field to lead the company.
"I believe when we can strengthen Vestigo, a local can be appointed to head it," he said in reply to a supplemetary question from Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican (BN-Kepala Batas) who wanted to know why Vestigo will not be headed by a Malaysian.
Razali explained that Vestigo was incorporated in April to enhance the country's competitiveness in oil and gas exploration locally and overseas.
"It is hoped that Vestigo Petroleum would compete against international companies with the same focus and not against local companies," he said.
Collins, who will take up his post tomorrow, has over 30 years' experience in management, drilling and well completion, and field development activities. -- BERNAMA
