Ringgit ends lower against US dollar
The ringgit closed lower against the US dollar for the fourth consecutive day as more investors shifted to euro following news about a possible US government shutdown, dealers said.
The local note was quoted at 3.2215/2245 per US dollar from 3.2140/2170 yesterday.
An analyst said concerns on the US Dollar, coupled with uncertainties over the eurozone monetary policy had offsetted the solid German data released yesterday.
He said the US politicians have not found a common ground on further resolutions to keep the government running after the authorisation to spend money runs out on September 30.
"Failure to reach an agreement would probably lend the dollar safe haven support against riskier currencies," he said.
Meanwhile, the ringgit fell against most major currencies.
The ringgit was lower versus the Singapore dollar at 2.5657/5683 from 2.5614/5654 on Tuesday and was marginally weaker against the yen at 3.2679/2726 from 3.2422/2459 yesterday.
It depreciated against the British pound to 5.1515/1569 from 5.1363/1424 on Tuesday and declined against the euro to 4.3477/3521 from 4.3370/3417 yesterday.-- Bernama
