KUALA LUMPUR: Material handling equipment and services distributor Unitrack Heli Sdn Bhd expects to achieve 100 per cent annual growth over the next three years on increased demand, in tandem with Malaysian warehousing and logistics industry expansion.
In a statement today, Founder and Chief Executive Officer Gan Poh Lye said the company's optimism is based on increased demand for new material handling equipment, due to the growing needs of the industrial sectors to improve their efficiency and productivity, in accordance with international standards.
“We foresee the logistics and transport industry to continue to grow and offer bright prospects in the future. Moreover, despite the global economic slowdown, the company is optimistic the strong intra-Asian trade and sustainable economic growth in the country will fuel the industry’s growth,” he said.
According to Frost & Sullivan, the Malaysian logistics industry is expected to grow 9.5 per cent to RM139.74 billion in 2013, compared to an estimated RM127.66 billion last year.
Overall, the Malaysian logistics industry is estimated to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 10.2 per cent to reach RM207.4 billion in 2017.

Gan said the Government’s effort to support logistics-related development would also be a driving force that adds value to the industry.
Although the material handling industry's competitiveness is expected to intensify, he expressed confidence the China-made HELI forklifts would perform well given its international standard quality, competitive pricing and efficient
Furthermore, he said, the company plans to bring in more battery operated and hybrid forklifts and material handling equipment, in the wake of the recent fuel price hike.
He also noted trained manpower shortage as one of the key challenges, forcing logistics companies to incur higher labour costs with the employment of overseas trained personnel.
