Significant spike in global travellers to Johor
TripAdvisor, the world's largest travel site, recorded a significant spike of 45 per cent, year-on-year, in global
travellers to Johor, thanks to the continuous rapid development in the state's tourism sector.
"Globally, traveller searches for Johor grew by 45 per cent, year-on-year, while closer to home, searches by Singaporean and Malaysian travellers increased by 23 per cent and 27 per cent, respectively," TripAdvisor spokesperson Jean Ow-Yeong said in a statement.
She said travellers' interest in the state maybe due to tourist attractions such as Johor Premium Outlets and Legoland in Johor Baru.
Recognising the city's potential for rapid growth, the Johor Tourism Department was working closely with the Tourism Ministry and related stakeholders to attract visitors by aggressively expanding tourism plans, the statement said.
These ambitious plans have been manifested in works such as the
rehabilitation of Sungai Segget into the new 1.2 kilometre water-way which could earn it the covetous title of the "Gem of Johor Baru City" upon completion, and transform the former mud bank into a glorious new tourist attraction.-- Bernama
