Aug motor vehicle sales fall to 51,104 units
Sales of passenger and commercial vehicles in August fell to 51,104 units from 51,818 units a year earlier, according to the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA).
In a statement today, MAA said the passenger vehicle segment recorded lower sales of 45,052 units compared with 45,681 units last year, whereas sales in the commercial vehicle segment eased to 6,052 units from 6,137 units last year.
It said the sales volume in August was 17,327 units, or 25 per cent, lower than the previous month.
"However, total industry volume for the period between January and August was five per cent higher than the similar period last year due to the short working month in August 2013," it said.
MAA said the output of passenger vehicles last month went down to 33,759 units from 35,542 units a year earlier.
The output of commercial vehicles decreased to 3,789 units from 3,804 units last year, it said.
It said total production for both segments declined to 37,548 units from 39,346 units a year earlier.
On outlook, MAA said, the sales volume for September was expected to be higher than in August with the introduction of new models and consumers' sentiment remained positive and consistent.-- Bernama
