Yahoo Malaysia is eyeing a double-digit growth this year, driven by increasing number of users and digital advertising.

Country Ambassador and Sales Director Jon Tjin Kee said Yahoo has 8.6 million Malaysian users currently.

"Malaysia is the key market to Southeast Asia and we are confident of a double-digit growth in users and digital advertisers this year," he told a media briefing today.

He said the company has placed the mobile segment as its priority in attracting more users and advertisers as about 30 to 40 per cent of Yahoo Malaysia users are mobile users.

"Malaysia has one of the highest smartphone ownerships in the region at 27 per cent and therefore we hope to capture the market to drive our growth," he said.

Jon said Yahoo Malaysia aspires to make mobile a big part of Yahoo for users to stay connected at the touch of a fingertip.

"This is further amplified with the launch of the Yahoo Mail on iPhone Android and Windows as well as the complete redesign of Flickr iPhone application on iPhone," he said.

Jon said the group will also continue to tap on the digital marketing spending in Malaysia where it is expected to have exceeded RM450 million last year.

"These opportunities are expected to lead the business growth of Yahoo Malaysia for this year," he said.

Jon said Yahoo Malaysia aims to stay relevant to its users, business partners and advertisers by bringing in leading edge content, communications and search properties and making them available across screens.

"We will continue to expand on our current products and improve our services to meet the demand in order for us to achieve the targeted growth," he added.-- Bernama
