Sirim gets RM8.8m grant from EU
SIRIM Bhd has received a RM8.8 million grant from the European Union (EU) to develop sustainable production and consumption practices for Malaysian manufacturers of building materials.
In a statement today, SIRIM said the three-year project would involve an international collaboration with UK-based pioneer in product carbon footprinting and carbon management.
"Carbon Trust will help in developing a standard eco-labelling scheme to enable companies to report on and to demonstrate the environmental credentials of their products through the use of a credible and recognised label," it said.
SIRIM chief technology officer, Dr Mohd Jamil Sulaiman, said the
project aimed to contribute towards the growth of a vibrant green industry through continuous improvement in sustainable production or manufacture and use of materials and products.
"Although this project will focus on manufacturers of construction and building materials, the output can be replicated for other business sectors once the overall structural framework of the environmental declaration scheme is
established," he said.-- Bernama
