Faber-Castell Malaysia ops key revenue generator
RM180M REVENUE: 3rd biggest overall contributor to group after Germany, Brazil
A.W. Faber-Castell (M) Sdn Bhd is currently the third highest contributor to Faber-Castell's revenue globally at RM180 million per annum, just behind Germany and Brazil.
"At RM180 million, we also hold the biggest market share of the local stationery market," said Dr Toh Yan Peng, its managing director of Asia Pacific operations, on the sidelines of the company's 35 years in Malaysia celebrations.
Faber-Castell Malaysia is one of the world's biggest producers of erasers.
"The reason why we are leading in eraser production is because we made the strategic goal of targeting the segment some 20 years ago. It made sense because we were and still are the leading pencil manufacturer; pencils go along with erasers after all."
Faber-Castell Malaysia currently has one manufacturing plant in Selangor but it has no plans to open another any time soon.
"We're happy with the current plant and right now, it accounts for about 50 per cent of Faber-Castell's total global eraser exports. Going forward, we are investing in automation so that we will be fully automated within three years time," he said.
The company is also not planning to list on Bursa Malaysia any time soon.
"There is much more room to manoeuvre when you are independent," said Count Anton von Faber-Castell, chairman and CEO of the Faber-Castell Group of Companies.
"We have our own funds and we don't need to make an initial public offering to raise additional funds. We're not ruling it out; we're just not interested," he said.
