HICOM-Chevrolet Sdn Bhd expects to sell 800 to 1,000 units of its enhanced version of the Chevrolet Captiva sports utility vehicle in the financial year ending March 31 2010.

Managing director and chief executive officer Sanjeev Garg said it had already received 20 bookings.

The Captiva, launched in 2007, was HICOM-Chevrolet's maiden stake in the Malaysian automotive industry.

Sanjeev said the company was on track with its growth plans.

"We still see growth opportunities in the Malaysian market, being one of the largest auto markets in Southeast Asia," he said after the launch of the enhanced Captiva in Petaling Jaya yesterday.

HICOM-Chevrolet will introduce more models in the coming months in addition to a more aggressive campaign to promote Chevrolet vehicles here, he added.

To ensure easy access to Chevrolet service centres nationwide, the company plans to set up four more 3S (sales, service and spare parts) centres in the next two months: in Alor Star, Langkawi, Kuching and Jalan Ipoh, Kuala Lumpur.

"We are well on our way to achieving our target of 15 3S centres by the end of the year," Sanjeev said.

Currently, it has seven 3S centres in the country.

On the higher interest rates for car loans, Sanjeev said the impact was evident.

"Definitely, we have seen the impact. Last month, sales were down for everyone."

The enhanced features of the Captiva 2-litre diesel include a Bluetooth-capable CD/MP3 eight-speaker audio system.

The vehicle also comes with beige leather interior, one-touch express up/down with pinch protection for the driver's power window, and ventilated disc brakes for the rear.

It also has functions like electronic stability, hill descend and cruise controls as well as hydraulic brake assist, among other things.
