Plans are afoot to connect MISC Bhd's (3816) current transhipment of halal products from countries in the Far East such as Japan and China to India and the Middle East.

MISC will launch a new service to complement its current Halal Express Service - Loop 2 (HE2) by September 24 that will directly connect the Far East ports to India and the Middle East.

In a statement, MISC said the service, which will start on September 24 with an inaugural voyage starting from Japan, will meet the growing demand for carriage of Halal produce and product, in line with the company's continuous aim to improve its service offerings to customers.

According to the statement, the HE2 will serve the ports, starting from Yokohama to Nagoya, Shanghai, Xiamen, Singapore, Colombo, Nhava Sheva, Jebel Ali, Dammam, Karachi, Port Klang, Singapore and back to Yokohama.

With the new loop, MISC offers the fastest transit from Yokohama, Nagoya and Xiamen to Nhava Sheva and the ports in the Gulf states.
This service will also offer a direct call from Dammam back to Yokohama, Nagoya, Shanghai and Xiamen, MISC said.

"A total of 6 x 45000 TEU (20-ft equivalent unit) vessels equipped with 350 plugs per vessel are allocated for the new services," MISC said.

According to the statement, both the Halal Express Service Loops 1 and 2 will provide connections to the Red Sea and Upper Gulf ports like Bahrain, Doha, Muscat, Umm Qassar and Shuwaikh via Jebel Ali.

"With the extensive agency coverage, MISC is well positioned to meet the current and growing needs of its customers."
