KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Abd Wahab Maskan, the managing director of Sime Darby Property Bhd and group chief operating officer of Sime Darby Bhd, was recently awarded the "Property CEO 2012" by FIABCI Malaysia.
The award is accorded to professionals in the Malaysian property industry who have showcased exemplary achievements in his or her personal career, entrepreneurship and social responsibility. It is also to recognise those who have contributed to the market competitiveness of his or her company to the positive development of the property industry at large, according to FIABCI.
Wahab received the accolade from Yang Di-Pertuan Besar Negri Sembilan Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir at the FIABCI Malaysia Property Award 2012 Gala Dinner held here recently.
Wahab attributed the honour to the teamwork, loyalty, dedication and hard work of each member of his team that supports his management ways over the years.
"To be named Property CEO 2012 is also a reflection of the success of the organisation that I have led, which has been a proven viable and dynamic, innovative and trusted brand; delivering products and services of the preferred quality and value to our customers.
"At the same time, this distinction is also a refreshing call to step up our ideas and actions, to maintain the high standards set and to continue improving to serve our stakeholders and the customers.
"A CEO must have an A-Team. He leads the team that delivers the excellence," he said in his acceptance speech, contained in a statement issued by Sime Darby.
According to conglomerate Sime Darby, Wahab had leadership roles in many landmark properties in Malaysia. This includes the establishment of townships like Subang Jaya, Taman Tun Dr Ismail, Taman Setiawangsa and Bandar Kinrara in the 1980s.
He was also instrumental in the success of projects, such as Bukit Jelutong, Denai Alam and Bandar Bukit Raja.
Not forgetting many new sizeable projects and niche integrated townships and developments, such as Ara Damansara, Bandar Bukit Raja, Oasis Ara Damansara, Elmina East and Bandar Ainsdale.
Describing Wahab, a Johorean, as a man with a calm demeanor and extensive corporate experience, Sime Darby said he has led Sime Darby Property to expand and strengthen its footprint abroad. This includes existing developments in Singapore, Vietnam, Australia and the UK, as well as the latest development of a new iconic landmark in London, the Battersea Power Station development, together with strategic partners, SP Setia and the Employees Provident Fund.
FIABCI, or the International Real Estate Federation, is a distinguished worldwide network consisting of professionals and practitioners in the property and real estate industry. It likens the Malaysian property award "Oscars" for the real estate industry.
