POS Malaysia Bhd has teamed up with RHB Insurance Bhd to launch a hospital cash income plan to provide cash relief for policyholders to cope with medical expenses.

The plan, underwritten by RHB Insurance, offers cash relief for hospitalisation needs due to illnesses or accidents.

Premiums begin at RM80 per year and policyholders are entitled to benefits depending on the plan.

These benefits include RM200 per day for the duration the insured is warded up to a maximum of 180 days per year, RM400 per day for the duration the insured is warded at ICU/CCU to a maximum of 30 days per year or a lump sum of RM1,000 for hospitalisation of more than 15 consecutive days.

The plan is available at all general post offices and all Klang Valley post offices.

"This strategic partnership with RHB Insurance gives an opportunity for Pos Malaysia to offer a wide range of insurance products and services to complement our customers' needs as it creates more value and gives them the convenience of a one-stop centre," Pos Malaysia executive director and group chief executive officer Datuk Abu Huraira Abu Yazid said in a statement yesterday.

The plan is designed to cater to various groups, and qualified persons will be able to purchase the policy on the spot without the need to undergo any medical examination or provide a health declaration.

The cash payout from this plan can be used to defray medical and surgical charges.

RHB Insurance managing director Koh Heng Kong said the availability of insurance products and services in Malaysia can be improved as many rural areas in Malaysia do not have access to proper channels to buy insurance.

"Pos Malaysia adds value by bringing good and reliable insurance products to those who are living in the suburban and rural areas," Koh said in the joint statement.
