It said that it was the first communications company in Malaysia to deploy the next generation High-Speed Packet Access+ (HSPA+) technology.
The technology will enable subscribers surfing the Internet in selected areas in the Klang Valley and Johor Baru to experience significant improvement in download speeds.
"The new technology is available now to select users on a trial basis and following new announcements will become widely available to Maxis customers during 2010," it said in a statement.
Maxis executive vice-president and head of network and technology Mark Dioguardi said for the past 12 to 18 months, the company has substantially increased the coverage, download/upload speeds and reliability of its wireless broadband service.
"The capability of HSPA+ will meet Malaysians' ever-increasing demand for higher speeds in accessing the digital realm on the go, making browsing the Internet, video-streaming, uploading and downloading of high-resolution files enjoyable and seamless."
With HSPA+, Maxis wireless broadband network can support top network speeds of 21 megabytes per second although users can expect speeds of up to 10-15 megabytes per second in environments with good coverage.
It will expand HSPA+ coverage in Malaysia in phases from December 2009 till 2011.
Maxis plans to continue investing in robust and value-rich enhancements of customer experience through leading-edge technology.
