OAK BROOK (Illinois):McDonald’s Inc says a key sales comparison edged down in the US in January, but results were stronger in the rest of the world.

Sales in stores open at least 13 months fell 0.7 per cent in the US. They rose 4.3 per cent in Europe, Asia/Pacific, Middle East and Africa.

The figure is considered a key indicator of a restaurant chain’s health because it excludes the effects of new restaurants and restaurant closings.

Total sales rose 9.1 per cent. McDonald’s says it is still outpacing its competitors in the US. — AP
