KL shares higher at mid-afternoon

SHARE prices on Bursa Malaysia were slightly higher at mid-afternoon today, bolstered by buying interest in financial stocks like Maybank and CIMB Group, dealers said.

At 3.05pm, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia (FBM) Kuala Lumpur Composite Index rose 5.76 points to 1,269.70 after opening 0.41 of a point lower at 1,263.53.

The Finance Index jumped 79.54 points to 10,985.48 but the Industrial Index eased 2.03 points to 2,666.83. The Plantation Index improved 30.66 points to 6,314.31.

The FBM Emas Index increased 34.5 points to 8,455.93, the FBM Top 100 Index rose 34.56 points to 8,273.56, the FBM Ace Index shed 10.3 points to 4,190.23 and the FBM70 Index jumped 22.27 points to 8,173.80.

There were 284 gainers and 201 losers, while 234 trade unchanged and 580 other counters untraded.

Volume stood at 247.636 million shares valued at RM290.529 million.

Among the actives, Land & General and Insas rose 3.5 sen each to 36.5 sen and 60.5 sen respectively while Jaks Resources edged up 2.5 sen to 62 sen.

Among financial stocks, Maybank edged up 10 sen to RM6.90, CIMB Group gained 16 sen to RM13, Public Bank edged up two sen to RM11 and AMMB Holdings rose three sen to RM4.90.

Conglomerate Sime Darby was up two sen to RM8.99, telco Maxis was unchanged at RM5.40 and power giant Tenaga Nasional shed two sen to RM8.30. - BERNAMA
