MALAYSIAN shares are expected to edge lower today, following another slide on Wall Street, but dealers said any dips may be limited on active buying by local funds.

“The falling US markets do have some impact, but we have seen lately that our market has sort of decoupled from the Wall Street in the sense that the impact is not too big,” said a dealer at a local brokerage house.

“We have seen in recent days that our market tends to move in a narrow band although the Wall Street posted pretty sharp moves,” he said.

Dealers said heavy weight plantation stocks, such as Sime Darby and IOI Corp, could come under pressure on falling palm prices as well as cloudy earning outlooks, although some bargain-hunting might emerge.

“We have seen some buying by local funds, probably consolidating ahead of the year-end, and that has also limited the slide in the index,” said another dealer. - Reuters
