Intel Malaysia sees healthy demand for chips

INTEL Electronics (M) Sdn Bhd expects demand for computer chips to be healthy amid growing personal computer (PC) sales, especially in notebooks, country manager Ryaz Patel said yesterday.

Speaking to reporters after unveiling the Intel Centrino 2 processor technology products for laptops, he said PC demand is expected to increase to 2.23 million units in 2008, of which 54 per cent will be notebooks while 41 per cent desktop.

“And by 2011, deamand is expected to increase to three million units and the market will see an increase in notebook consumption to 63 per cent from 54 per cent now and desktop to 37 per cent. It is an exciting time in technology,” Patel said.

He said according to the International Data Corp, a market research and analysis firm, information communication and technology sector in Malaysia is expected to grow 9.1 per cent yearly between 2008 and 2011.

On Intel Malaysia’s marketing campaign for Intel Centrino 2, Patel said the first stage would start at PC Fairs in about two weeks. — Bernama
