Daily Fresh’s secret of success lies in the corn
BESIDES a successful franchise system, Daily Fresh’s edge lies in the corn itself. Daily Fresh food chain manager Md Asyraf Yong said Daily Fresh Cup Corn is made of Gold 10 (G10) breed, which is a cross-breed corn developed at the company’s facility in Johor. “It is a combination of corn breed from the US, which is crunchy, and from Taiwan, which is sweet. This particular breed is sweeter, juicier and less fibre, which is more satisfying to customers,” he said. Daily Fresh main products include Corn Cup, Waffle Cake and Ice Kimo. Most of Daily Fresh outlets are located at shopping complexes, main public transportation terminals and c i n e m a s. Locations that register high sales include Sunway Carnival Mall in Seberang Jaya, Penang, Giant hypermarket in Muar, and Warisan Square in Sabah. Besides providing business opportunities for aspiring franchisees, Daily Fresh also provides businesses for farm owner s. Daily Fresh, which has a small-scale farm in Johor to grow the corn, gives out contract to land owners in the state to grow the corn. These contract farms are monitored closely to ensure production of high quality corn. Asyraf said Daily Fresh’s HACCP-certified processing plant has a capacity of 24 tonnes per day. The company is producing 12 tonnes of corn per day and exporting 300 tonnes of processed corn per month to its franchisees abroad. Daily Fresh also tries to locate its kiosk or café away from other food outlets. As it is selling snack food, it faces less competition from other food operators. “Customers can also smell the aroma of Corn Cup from far and we do a lot of food preparations in front of customer s,” Asyraf said. Product quality, good service and cleanliness are also Daily Fresh’s competitive edge, he added.
