AMBANK Group chairman Tan Sri Azman Hashim was recently awarded the highest civilian award to a foreigner by the Australian government.

Azman received the appointment of Honorary Officer of the Order of Australia in recognition of his services and contributions to Australia-Malaysia bilateral relations.

The award was presented by Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd during his visit to Malaysia recently.

"I feel very fortunate that I have been in a position to contribute to the advancement of ties and relations between Malaysia and Australia through my business partnerships, ventures and foundations," Azman said.

Azman, one of Malaysia's most successful businessmen, is active in the Malaysia-Australia Foundation of which he is one of the founders.

He has also negotiated with a number of Australian companies to invest in Malaysia.
